Wrinkles are a part of our human body ageing process that, unfortunately are inevitable – the signifiers of age creeping up on us. However, with certain preventative measures, and even treatments, wrinkles can be kept at bay for longer. On the other hand wrinkles can be aggravated and get worse, for example with increased sun expose. UV light breaks down the collagen and elastin fibres in the skin, which form the skin’s connective tissue. Breaking down this layer leads to the development of wrinkles at an early age.

The sagging of the skin can change our facial expressions, and lead to a gloomier and more unhappy looking appearance. While there are many preventative measures to take to keep the skin looking fresh and young, inevitable some point in a person’s life, wrinkles will creep in. It is for this reason that many people have turned to medical science to help rejuvenate their complexions, and remove wrinkles to revitalise that youthful exuberance from which confidence and happiness often shine. Many affordable surgeries are available which can help keep the wrinkles at bay and breath new life into people’s complexion.

Facelifts are one of the most common forms of combatting wrinkles- once confined to the wealthy elites- facelifts are now accessible and affordable to many more people. Also known as a rhytidectomy, the primary aim of a facelift is to make people look younger. The procedure often involves removing excess facial skin and fat, with or without tightening the underlying tissues to remove the wrinkles. Research has suggested that even after five and a half years, facelifts are still effective, but is is often the neck area which begins to relapse. One such facelift treatment is SMAS. This involves pulling the deeper layers of the skin, which allows for better lifting of the skin and a more permanent effect. The surgery only lasts for approximately two hours, leaves minimal to no scarring, and can last for up to ten years.

For some, the idea of a facelift can be off-putting, thanks to the exposure of those famous celebrity-gone-wrong surgeries that plaster the pages of gossip magazines. This is why when choosing t have a facelift, it’s imperative to work with top surgeons, which can best translate your needs and desires for the surgery.

Eyelids are a specific area of the face which is prone to the onset of wrinkles and sagging skin, which can lead to that undesired weary looking expression that many are eager to get rid of. Eyelid surgery, or as it is also known Blepharoplasty) is not only aesthetic, as sagging eyelids are also known to cause problems with patients vision. Under local anaesthetic, the procedure can take between 1 and 2 hours, and the scar is usually subtle and hidden in the fold of the eyelids.

While we must accept wrinkles as an inevitable part of the human ageing process, it doesn’t mean we have to resign ourselves to the tired and weary looking expressions which they burden us with. Through healthy lifestyle choices, preventative measures and even the subtlest of cosmetic aid, people can once again rejuvenate that youthful positivism that comes with aesthetic confidence.
